In the Shadows

Image result for shadows

In the shadows, your greatest fears lurk.

In the shadows, your deepest desires hide.

Your truest self hides in those shadows.

The mask of happiness for all to see is worn for those while the sun shines.

The mask that all is great will remain in place, a mask of light and joy.

Believe in yourself so the shadows can fade.

Let the shadows be no longer true.

Be the sun and the brightness.

Be the joy and the light.

But don’t let the shadows know.

Don’t let them see.

Dinnertime

Please enjoy this poem I wrote on dinnertime.  It’s part of the daily prompt “dinnertime”.  Also, I’ve been challenged to do 3 quotes for 3 days.  Here is day one.  I decided to role them both into one!

The table is set with pearly white plates and turquoise glasses.

Everything looks so grand.

Salad of fresh, spring greens and bright crimson tomatoes sit in the temptingly in the crystal, shimmering bowl.

Mom has prepared our favorite dish with love and delight she serves us.

Velvety mashed potatoes, buttery carrots and steak done on the grill.

She calls us all in, pours us our milk as we sit together at last.

“Who will say grace?” she asks as we each take another one’s hand.

With delight in our eyes and forks held high, we each pass mom our plates.

She serves us our grub. We thank her with love.

Then eat till our bellies are content.

Distressed Mom!

She had enough that day.  Kids screaming and all wanting everything at once.

Was she every to rest or get her own time to relax?

Usually calm and gentle in nature,

She new she would take things in stride, but not today.

Something was different and the kids had gotten on her last nerve.

She counted to 20 because 10 wasn’t high enough.

She went outside to get a break.

They followed her.

She felt like a rose bush bending in a gust of wind.

They asked and asked more and more.

They fought and fought.

Finally, the snap she had been trying to avoid came.

She yelled, “STOP! BE QUIET! EVERYONE BE STILL!”

They had finally made her snap, but she finally got her peace as they stared blankly at her, bewildered.

“I need peace.  I need quiet.  I need you to get along for the next hour.  You are all driving me crazy, so please do as I ask. Please.”

The message got through and peace was achieved.

The children did not like when mom snapped like that, so they all played together,

They remembered their love.

They remembered their manners.

They remembered they even liked each other.

There was peace in mom’s land and all was good again.

Mom took a nap and felt refreshed when she woke.

Dad reminded them all,

If mom isn’t happy, nobody’s happy.

Bedtime

cool night time pic

Amber, gold, and bright white stars

Hang in place in the blackened sky.

The moon shines an orange hue

and peace envelops the land.

A bedtime story, a lullaby, baby is fast asleep.

Soon it will be my bedtime too,

as the world settles down for sleep.

Tricky

20160407_141009

Tricky little hamster where did you go?

Behind the couch, behind the chair. Faster than you know.

Tricky little hamster how do you play?

In the ball, in the wheel, up and through the pipes all day.

Tricky little hamster when do you sleep?

When you are at school and all is quiet. Then you won’t hear even a peep!

This was written for the word prompt tricky. Enjoy!
